The UGC sponsored one day inter disciplinary seminar held at crossland college

Brahmavar: The UGC sponsored one day inter disciplinary seminar and paper presentation competition for students were held at crossland college. The seminar was organized by the Department of sociology in association with the mangalore sociology association ®.The theme of the seminar was women empowerment-trends and strategies.

Dr.Anita Ravishankar, Director, Womens studies, mangalore university inaugurated the seminar and delivered the keynote address. She emphasized the need to rely on Amarthya Sen’s human capability approach for enlarging people’s choices and human well-being. Our constitution is one of the best in the world which provides everything but how far it reaches to the women in meeting their basic necessities is the question that needs to be answered, she added.

Prof.Reebu Samuel,Convener presented the theme of the seminar.Prof.Melwin Rego,President ,man galore Sociology association gave his remarks. Principal Prof.Samuel K.Samuel in his presidential address encouraged the women to be economically independent and said the mind set of men towards women has to change for bringing about women empowerment.

The chief guest of the valedictory session was Prof.Melwin Rego, President of mangalore sociology association. Trophies and cash awards were presented to the winners by the chief guest. A total of 29 papers were presented by students from 12 colleges of mangalore university and manipal university.

Dr. Y.R. Rao, Principal (Rtd.) SMS College, Brahmavar and Prof. Joseph Mathew,Rtd. Professor, PPC Udupi were present on the occasion. Salwa and Wafa of Crossland College, Ancil Princiston Serrao of Sri Dhavala College, Moodbidri and. Shreenidhi of Poorna Prajna College, Udupi have bagged the First, Second and Third prizes respectively in the degree section and Akshatha K.N. Veena V. and Vidyashri of Manipal University won the First, Second and Third prizes respectively in the P.G section.
