Tulu Sahitya Academy to confer honorary awards for three veterans

Mangaluru: Academy president M Janaki Brahmavar informed media on Monday that Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy has selected writers Muddu Moodubelle, K Anand Shetty and Thamma Lakshmana for its annual honorary award for the year 2016. Muddu Moodubelle has been chosen in literature, Shetty in theatre and Thamma Lakshmana in cinema category. The award comprises Rs 50,000, a certificate and a memento. It will be presented in the third week of February. The date of the function is yet to be finalised.

A book on ’Pad-danagalalli Moodi Banda Veera Vanitheyaru’ by Dr Palthadi Ramakrishna Achar, poem ’Oyil’ by Yogish Rao Chigurupade and play ’Barbarika’ by Shashiraj Kavoor have been selected for the academy’s book award which comprises Rs 25,000, a certificate and a memento. Registrar Chandrahas Rai said the book award has received good response this year compared to the previous year. The academy has received 27 books for the award. In research category, the academy received 10 works, four poems, eight Tulu plays, two novels and three limericks.

Moodubelle has served as senior programme announcer in Mangaluru Akashvani and is engaged in literary activities in Kannada, Tulu, Konkani and English. Some of his works are ’Janapada Ine Roopakolu’, ’Kantabare-Boodabare’, ’Poovari’, ’Bajil Bannangayi’, ’Mulki Kolluru Kshetra Darshana’, Kannega’ and ’Namana’. He has also served as the member of Tulu Sahitya Academy. At present, he is serving as the head of Brahmasri Narayana Guru Adhyayana Peeta at Mangaluru University.

Anand Shetty, a Tulu theatre artiste, entered the theatre field in his school days. He was known for his roles in plays like ’Gamjalda Gobbu’, ’Bayya Mallige’, ’Brahmana Baravu,’ ’Dalavayi Dugganne’ and ’Poomale’.His role as a ’Choma’ in Tulu play ’Lacchuna Korage’. The has seen 101 shows while ’Poomale’ has seen 300 shows. He was also part of ’Chaparka’ team of Devadas Kapikad. He has staged plays at Behrain, Dubai and Muscat as well.

Thamma Lakshamana is a playwright, director and actor in Tulu movies. He has acted in ’Bangar Patler’, ’Kadala Mage’, ’Badi’, ’Birse’, ’Bangarda Kural’, ’Sompa’, ’Angaraka’, ’Madime’ and ’Super Marmaye’ Tulu films. He has penned ’Tulu Bhasheya Suvarna Chalanachitragalu’, a book.

Tulu Minadana

The academy, in association with Kural Tulu Koota Duggaladka and Mithra Yuvaka Mandala, Koikuli, will organise Sullia Tulu Minadana, at Duggaladka Government High School at 2.30 pm on February 4.
