Two students drown in bathing ghat at Kukke

Mangaluru (The Hindu): Two second-year Pre-University students drowned in the bathing ghat near the pilgrimage centre of Kukke Subrahmanya on Monday.

According to Subrahmanya police, Jitesh A.R. (17) and Stephan Raj (17), students of Kukke Subrahmanya PU College, and eight other classmates went to the bathing ghat for a swim on Monday evening after classes. While eight remained at the place where they had entered the water, Jitesh and Stephan Raj went further down where they got stuck in shallow waters.

Classmates quickly came out of the ghat and altered police and local swimmers. The police came to the spot with swimmers and also Fire and Emergency services personnel. The students’ bodies were fished out on Tuesday afternoon.

The police said Jitesh A.R. was a resident of Kamala Mogaru village, and Stephan Raj was from Balpa village near Subrahmnya.
