Udupi Diocesan Eucharistic Procession held with great fervour and devotion at Udupi

Udupi : The Solemn Eucharistic celebrations and Diocesan level Eucharistic procession was held at Udupi on the occasion of the feast of Christ the King on Sunday, 23rd November, 2014 at Mother of Sorrows Church with utmost devotion and fervor.

Bishop of Udupi Diocese, His Lordship Most Rev Dr. Gerald Isaac Lobo concelebrated Solemn High mass along with diocesan priests in large numbers at 4.30pm. During his brief homily, Bishop said that unlike the great rulers of the history, the character of Jesus is the King of Love, forgiveness, Service and peace. To the believer, Jesus is the Prophet of God who came to tell us the words of God. He is Our Great High Priest who has come to bridge the gap between God and man by offering the ultimate sacrifice of our sins. Jesus is the witness of service and we follow the path of Jesus.

 

After the end of the Solemn High mass, the Holy Sacrament was mounted on the beautifully decorated alter and Most Rev Msgr. Dr. Baptist Menezes held brief adoration prior to the grand Eucharistic Procession.

The grand procession started at 6pm moved towards Kittoor Chennmma Road to Ajjarkad, Jodukette, Big Bazar Old Taluk Office, Court Road, Deana Circle and back to Our Lady of Mother of Sorrows church which was attended by more than 4 thousand devotees. During the procession, Bishop carried the Holy Sacrament on a boat like decorated float which was prepared by Arun & team of Kemmannu church. The cross followed by brass band, devotees, nuns, priests with lighted candles and with the tune of hymns. The peeling of the church bells, fire crackers and canopy holders in traditional kurtha dress added to the solemnity of the procession.

Followed by the procession, Rev Fr. Sunil Veigas of Tallur Church gave beautiful homily in relation to the Christ the King. Bishop conferred the Eucharistic blessings on the faithful.

The Bishop honoured highest collection of Mission Sunday and names read by Fr. Vincent Crasta, Director of Pontifical Commission of the Diocese. Fr. Fred Mascarenhas, Vicar of Udupi Church thanked all concerned for successfully organizing the Eucharistic celebrations.

Meanwhile, Bishop also thanked all those concerned for the successful organization of the Annual Eucharistic procession on the day of the feast of Christ the King. Rev Fr. Denis D’Sa, PRO of Diocese of Udupi compered the programme systematically with discipline.

At the end of the occasion, snacks and soft drinks were distributed by the ICIM, YCS and other volunteers.
