Udupi district Congress women Convention "Mahila Shakti" held at Udupi

Udupi:  Once upon a time all the legislative, parliament seats were won by the Congress Party in the undivided South Kanara district. That situation we should see next time said M. Veerappa Moily, former Chief Minister and Former Union Cabinet Minister.

He was speaking after inaugurating the Udupi district Women Congress Convention called Mahila Shakthi at Town Hall on Saturday, 13th February, 2016. He said whenever there was an attempt by the congress to effectively implement the administrative decentralization process, BJP, JDS and allies creating problem.

BJP is totally against empowering a three-tier local government. Their attempts’ was to create hurdles against Mahatma Gandhi who is in favour of Gram Swaraj, he said.

From the beginning, the Congress is committed towards bringing in more power to the three-tier local governance system which to implement the recommendations of Ramesh Kumar committee.

Siddaramaiha government at the state is pro-poor and is trying to legalize the illegal encroachments for the poor under the Akrama Sakrama project. The Supreme Court verdict stating that Kumki is a privilege is the result of a BJP government’s approach to the court against Kumki rights. The state government is trying to find a middle way to solve the problem.

He said under the Modi government rule at centre, the Indian commercial banks going under bankruptcy and inflation is badly affecting people. The retail sector has tremendously gone very high and poor people are hard to cope with the inflation of essential consumer goods.
BJP had shown against the reservation system to minorities and other backward caste people. It has shown against the Panchayat raj system. Everywhere congress is working towards betterment for women, minorities and others, BJP has shown against of it. It was congress government in favour of upliftment of weaker society and minorities.

Former Union Minister and Rajya Sabha MP, Oscar Fernandes said the state government under Siddaramaiha moving towards marvelous development of the state through various projects. It has introduced 29 programmes to strengthen the rural administration. Out of 33 lakh panchayat members across the country, there are nearly 18 lakh women members.

Vinay Kumar Sorake also spoke during the occasion. He said rural governance should be strengthened, so that economic empowerment arises. Indira Gandhiji had emphasized on the empowerment of women and she was the inspiration of the women empowerment. How can BJP have asked votes now?

Dr. Jayamala MLC said that the state government under Siddaramaiha is trying to uplift the poor and downtrodden with various projects. The State government had actually understood the democratic nerve of the country and plans to set up a committee to see the living conditions and psychological status of sex workers. The government has plans to introduce new policies ensuring better living conditions for sex workers.

Earlier, after an invocation Vande Matharam hymn by Aditi Shetty, Veronica Cornelio gave an introduction talk and welcomed the gathering. Present on the dais were Oscar Fernandes General Secretary of AICC, Blossom Fernandes, Gopal Poojary President of Udupi district Congress committee and MLA, Pramod Madwaraj local MLA, Pratap Chandra Shetty MLC, former MLA’s U. Sabhapathy and Gopal Bhandary, Yuvaraj President of Udupi CMC and Amrutha Krishamurthi, Vice President of Udupi CMC, Narasimha Murthy, General Secretary of District Congress Committee, M.A. Gaffoor Secretary of KPCC, Sarala Kanchan, Sarasu Bangera, Sathish Amin Padukere, Amruth Shenoy, Divakar Shetty, Nithayanda Shetty, Rehamath of Karkala Purasabha, Naveen Chandra Shetty, Meenakshi Madhav, Sujatha Acharya, Mamatha Shetty, Malini Rai, Geetha Wagle, Sandhya Shetty and others were present. Dr. Suneetha Shetty compered the programme.
