Udupi district courts recorded pendency rate at 2.46%

Udupi: Udupi district courts recorded 2.46% of pendency rate in the cases that are reported in the past ten years. Official data reveals the number of pending civil cases are 448, while there are 166 criminal cases and the total number of cases, both civil and criminal, that are pending are 614. Compared to the national data, the pendency rate in the country in the past ten years is 9.39%, wherein 22,66,016 cases are reported (6,16,870 are civil cases, 16,49,146 are criminal cases). The total pendency in the country for the cases from five to ten years is 16.39% (39,56,483 cases). The cases that are pending from two to five years is 70,49,474 (29.2%) and the cases that are pending less than two years at all Indian level is 1,08,69,391 (45.03%) respectively.

The courts in the district have taken up 25 cases in the past one month that were pending since 10 years for the announcement of the verdict. The percentage of the cases that are pending between five to ten years is 11.67 (2,906 cases). There are 1,415 criminal cases and 1,491 civil cases. The percentage of the cases that are pending between two to five years is 30.63, while there are 3,881 civil cases and 3,750 criminal cases. The district judiciary has recorded 55.24% of the pendency under the cases that are pending for less than two years. There are 13,760 cases of which 6,240 are civil cases and 7,520 are criminal cases.

Interestingly, the total numbers of criminal cases filed by the senior citizens, which are in various stages of trials and are pending for the announcement of the verdict are 467, while that of the criminal cases filed by women stands at 775. The excessive dated cases stands at 717 (2.88%), of which 717 are criminal cases.

The cases that were disposed of in the previous month were 1,544, of which 499 were civil cases and 1,045 were criminal cases. However, when compared the cases that are filed in the same month the disposal rate is high. There were as many as 301 civil cases and 1036 criminal cases filed in the last one month. A total of 1337 cases were filed during the similar period.
