Uproar over street light maintenance at Udupi CMC meeting

Udupi: Opposition BJP councilors of the Udupi City Municipality staged protest during the monthly meeting on Saturday, 30thJuly on the issue of maintaining the street lights of Municipal areas. The opposition members were led by Dr.M. R. Pai and Dinakar Shetty Herga were protested in front of the Chair of the council.

There was a heated argument with opposition members along with Ramesh Kanchan which argues that the protest completely political motivated but nothing else. Ramesh Kanchan said that the issue of maintaining street lights with no reason that the administration of the municipality taken seriously and taken measures to maintain the street lights all over the municipal areas. But opposition simply making an issue for political reasons. Ramesh Kanchan said that municipality officials taken proper measures for the street lights problems.

The Municipal Commissioner has given reply that the municipality taken and maintained the street lights with seriously. During the last month around 3647 street lights were replaced. Due to various reasons that of lightning burst of lights, rain and other major problems in fact obviously took time. But the solutions were done with no reason whatsoever. Four teams have been working day and night for the purpose. Due to unavailability of electricity and other reasons in very few areas may the cause of absence of street lights.

Prior to the street lights issue, Dr. M. R. Pai told the chair that in Beedinagudde one illegal mobile tower installed and standing committee president Prashant Bhat given the acknowledgement of Rs. 5,000. Yashpal Suvarna, Mahesh Takoor, Dinakar Shetty Herga questions the chair that how one can issue the receipt by the councilor which no right to give for any receipt acknowledge in writing. Prashant Bhat as well as Janardhan Bhandarkar regretted on issue of receipt and asked the officials to demolish the illegal mobile tower immediately.

Amrutha Krishnamurthy demanded to take measurers’ against the diseases like Dengue, Malaria and other communicable diseases.
Some members complained about the illegal street vendors in various areas of the city. Ramesh Kanchan asked the chair to demolish the illegal street vendors which disturb the public.

Smt. Meenakshi Madhav Bannenje presided over the meeting. D. Manjunathayya Commissioner and Smt. Sandhya Tilakraj were present.
