Kundapur, Dec 9: The traditional grand Vandaru Harake Kambala which has the history of hundreds of years was held on Wednesday, December 7. Thousands of devotees from Udupi and nearby districts participated in it. The Kambala was set in motion by getting the buffaloes in the fields after special Pooja to Nighaleshwara and Tulasi Amma deities. Hundreds of people fulfilled their vows after bringing their buffaloes in the fields. Devotees also fulfilled vows walking around the deities and with other rituals.

Shankaranarayana station police who were present warned not to hurt the animals and not to get down in the field with sticks and helped in the celebrations to remain free from violence. The Kambala concluded after the buffalo of the house of Hegde was led to the fields. Special devotion, felicitations and vows were performed in the abode of Tulasi Amma deity.

As there is a ban on Kambala, people were less and the atmosphere of festival was lacking. However more devotees had arrived in Vandaru Kambala this year when compared to last year.
