Week-long cultural competition held at St Ann’s College

Mangaluru: With prospects of bringing out hidden talents from student teachers, offering a chance for participants to gain substantial experience, showcase skills and unfold personal aptitude, St Ann’s College of Education (Autonomous) held cultural competition recently.

The week long cultural competitions were inaugurated by Dr Sr Clare, the principal of the college and on gracing the occasion spoke about how competitions provide a great platform to display the knowledge and skills one has amassed over the years. She also added that competitions can prove to be a great source of self evaluation for student teachers and help nurture their experience and skills further.

The following innovative competitions were conducted for the student teachers:

Essay Competition

An essay Competition was organised on the theme ‘What can I do for a clean India?’ The student teachers brought out their creative ideas and critical thinking skills. The students highlighted points about explaining situations in India today and also stressed on the details of Swachch Bharat Abhyan.

Second place: Sr Shanthi Arasada
Third place: Anna Una Crasta

Bhavageethe

‘Bhavageethe – A perceptive song from a poetic heart’ competition was conducted. Around twenty student teachers participated and touched the sensibilities of the audience.

Second place: Shilpa U
Third place: Shalini Flona Lobo

Eastern Singing

With musical harmony and ecstatic songs, groups of participants enthralled the audience with their melodious voices.

First place: Swizel Goes, Sharon John, Mayuri Nayak, Nivrvana D’Souza, Ramsheena, Aisha Nishana, Nausheen, Swathi K. and Shwetha K

Second place: Sr Nithya Fernandes, Sr Selina Mary, Sr Violet Vaz, Sr Santhosh Mary, Shwetha M D, Shilpa U, Preema, Sr Shathi Arasada and Sr Jyothi Gudiwada

Third place: Veronica Lopis, Preethi Martha D’Souza, Sr Flona, Sr Gretta, Asha D’Souza, Teertha, Sr Vimala, Sr Lilly and Sr Prashanthi

Poster Designing

A poster designing competition on the theme ‘Save Nature’ was conducted and approximately fifty students participated in the same. The student teachers designed
creative posters and increased the awareness on the importance of the topic.

First place: Sr Therese Teena Vas and Sr Preena
Second place: Swathi K and Anjali
Third place: Theertha P V and Vilma D’Souza

Folk dance

To bring out the historical importance and cultural heritage of a country, the folk dance was organised and the synchronisation of our student teachers spontaneously exhibited their latent talents and emotions charmed the audience.

First place: Anna Crasta, Preethi K V, Deepika, Prameela, Nethra, Amitha, Shobitha and Sr Flona

Second place: Arpitha, Swathi, Shwetha K, Sharon John, Rekha, Gayathri and Shilpa U

Third place: Sr Theresa Teena, Sr Preena, Sr Gretta, Sr Leena, Sr Lilly, Sr Prashanthi, Sr Vimala and Chaithra

Vegetable and Fruit Carving

Vegetable Carving – A meticulous carving of vegetables

There were twenty seven groups with two members each who displayed incredible carvings art and formed beautiful objects with a mixture of fruits and vegetables.

Details of winners:

First place: Sr Preena K J and Therese Teena Vas
Second place: Sr Gretta Dias and Sr Leena Bennis
Third place: Godsy Menezes and Shalet Sharma D’Cunha

The competitions thus provided exposure and realistic outlook towards the competitive nature in the life of a student. The college’s student teachers put in immense amount of hard work with their outstanding skills and the overall programme was a cherishing one.
