Women should get equal rights as men - Justice A. V. Chandrashekar

Udupi: Top priority given to women in Udupi very long years, where top priority given for employment in the banks. As per the Indian Constitution of India, there should not be partiality in the sense of Caste, religion, creed and sex. Now also, we are giving women 33% reservation, is also partiality. Women should get equal rights as men, said State High Court Justice A. V. Chandrashekar.

While speaking in his inaugural address on the occasion of programme on Legal awareness for Women and children organized jointly by Udupi District Bar Association, Shree Kshethra Dharmasthala Rural Development Project, Udupi, Women & Child Development Department, Udupi City Municipal Council at Town Hall, Ajjarkadu, Udupi on 27th February, 2016.

He said that Women should have knowledge plans of the government for the upliftment of women. Indian constitution has given social, economic and political equality without any discrimination according to an Article (15), 3. Still women have not received equality in property so far. Women have to open joint accounts with their husband. There are lots of provisions for the safety, protection and right to women. The constitution of India provides that every person is entitled to equality in the society under law.

So many acts exist for the benefit of the women that we must know. Maternity benefit leaves introduced in 1961, there cannot be discrimination in regard to wages and salaries.

Shivashankar B. Amarannanavar, Municipal and District Sessions Judge, Udupi presided the occasion.

Tenkanidiyoor First Grade College, Assistant Professor Dr. Niketana, Udupi CMC Commissioner D. Manjunathayya, Shree Dharmasthala Rural Development Director, Purushotham P. K. Senior Advocate of Karkala M.K.Vijayakumar, Senior Advocate, Mattar Rathnakar Hegde, Udupi Bar Association President, Dayananda K., Secretary of Bar Council, Reynold Praveen Kumar and others were present on the dais.

Earlier, Dayananda welcomed the gathering after the invocation prayer by Jyothi. Reynold Praveen Kumar delivered vote of thanks. Deepa K. R. compered the programme.
