Published On : 27 Dec 2015

Hyderabad, Dec 27 (IANS) A fire broke out on Sunday during 'Ayutha Chandi Maha Yagam' being conducted by Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao at his farmhouse near here.

Fire engulfed Yagashala where the rituals were being performed.

Police said the flames from 'homagundam' (fire pit) caught the temporary structure made of bamboo and grass.

Fire personnel immediately swung into action and brought the fire under control.

The accident created a panic among people who ran out of Yagashala and adjoining structures at the farmhouse at Erravalli in Medak district.

Police removed barricades to prevent stampede.

The fire broke out during lunch break and a few minutes before arrival of President Pranab Mukherjee who was scheduled to participate in the yagam.

Sunday is the last day of mega rituals being performed for world peace and public wellbeing.
