New Delhi: The Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS) has stirred a hornet's nest by suggesting in an article in its mouthpiece 'Kesari' that Mahatma Gandhi's assassin Nathuram Godse should have killed former prime minister Jawahar Lal Nehru instead.
The article in 'Kesari' has blamed Nehru and his 'selfishness' for major national tragedies of India like partition and Mahatma Gandhi's assassination.
The editorial in question was written by B Gopalakrishnan, who was the BJP candidate from Kerala's Chalakudy in the Lok Sabha elections.
It says that 'historical facts before partition and views of Godse' suggest that 'Godse had chosen the wrong target', reports stated.
The Congress condemned the attack on Nehru by the RSS and called it 'disgusting and reprehensible'.
Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi on Friday said, "It is painful that RSS ideologue such as this, has spoken something disgusting and reprehensible. It is time that people understand the true face of the RSS and the BJP. It is even more unfortunate that backers of such people are in power."
