Home Minister Rajnath Singh points fingers at Pakistan over attack on CRPF convoy in Pampore in which 8 CRPF personnel were martyred, accuses the neighbouring country of trying to destabilise India; centre to send 2 member team to probe the attack and look into issue of increase in cross border terrorism.

In a clear reference to Pakistan, Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday said that the neighbouring country is trying to destabilise India.

He further added that India won't fire the first but will give a befitting reply if Pakistan resorts to unprovoked firing.

The Home minister expressed deep anguish over the killing of eight CRPF personnel in an ambush at Pampore in Jammu and Kashmir.

He said that a two-member team is being sent to Pampore to find out the lapses in the security arrangement.

The team will look into issues of possible increase in cross border terrorism and the procedures being followed by CRPF during movement of their convoys.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences to the families of those Matyred jawans who laid down their lives in Pampore. In a tweet, the Prime Minister also wished speedy recovery to those injured.

Meanwhile, the wreath laying ceremony was held in Srinagar to pay tributes to the martyrs who laid their life in the ambush.

State Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti paid homage to 8 CRPF jawans who lost their lives in Pampore terror attack.

Condemning the terror attack, Mehbooba Mufti said the assault was aimed at subverting peace and development initiatives launched by the state government.

Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar said India seeks peace but from the position of strength and not from the position of weakness.

He said the attack is a fallout of frustration as he cited the records of last one month during which 25-30 terrorists have been gunned down after their infiltration from Pakistani side.

Two terrorists who were also killed in the shootout appeared to be Pakistanis and were Lashkar-e-Taiba operatives.

Security personnel recovered arms and ammunition including 2 AK 47 Rifles, 11 hand grenades from the killed terrorists.
