Rajya Sabha adjourned four times over National Herald case

Published On : 11 Dec 2015

New Delhi, Dec 11 (IANS) Amid repeated disruptions by Congress members who trooped near the chairman's podium and raised slogans, the Rajya Sabha was adjourned till 2.30 p.m. on Friday over the National Herald case.

The pre-lunch session was wiped out, and Chairman M. Hamid Ansari's attempts to take up the question hour failed, forcing the house's adjournment.

The ruckus started as soon as the house met at 11 a.m. and Deputy Chairman P.J. Kurien adjourned the house till 11.30 a.m, and then till 12 noon.

The protests continued when the house met again, with Congress members raising slogans and calling Prime Minister Narendra Modi a dictator.

"This is the kind of noise that comes in a zoo," said Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi.

"I am sorry because some members are shouting, which is very unfortunate. We are not able to run the house, important bills are pending. You are failing in performing your duty," Kurien said before he adjourned the house till noon.

When the house met for the question hour, the scene was the same and Ansari adjourned the house till 12.30 p.m. But when the Rajya Sabha met again, the scene was no different.

Ansari tried to take up some questions, but as the din continued he adjourned the house till 2.30 p.m.
