Closing Ceremony of 20th All India level Kuvempu Memorial Kannada One-Act Drama Competition

DRISHYA KAVYA GROUP FIRST – BHASH LALITHAKALA GROUP SECOND

Mumbai, January 11: 20th All India Level Kuvempu Memorial Kannada one-act drama competition organized by Karnataka Sangha Mumbai was concluded and Drishya Kavya group of Bangalore won the first place for its “suryasthadinda suryodayadavarege”. Bhash Lalithakala Sangha of Bangalore (Samanvaya) won the second place for “Padmapani” and Bhoomika Harady (Udupi) group won the third prize for “Aragina betta”.

The closing ceremony was held on Sunday at Dr M Vishveshvarayya Auditorium, Matunga (w). Subbu Holeyar-the programme producer of Chandana Vahini and famous poet presided over the function. Chief Guest of the function-Vasantha Bannady, a well-known theatre director and honorary treasurer-B G Nayak distributed the prizes to the winning groups and wished good luck.

“Organizing such competitions is possible only through sheer self-confidence. Kannada sangha has done a great job by providing an opportunity to Kannada. Viewing drama, one can inculcate positive thinking. Such competitions support the literature and bring out more dramas. Drama means demonstrating the talent and gaining the trust of the art lovers simultaneously. Drama has the power to spread knowledge and social health”-said Vasantha Bannady.

“Eight years of theatre journey of Karnataka Sangha is admirable. Karnataka Sangha is a smaal lamp of Kannada. Drama is the beauty of moving forward and it has a tremendous power to bring the change in theatre. The art of drama has a blood relationship and has a power to bind the humans together. Successful and creative theatre activity can build a harmonious life” said Subbu Holeyar.

Jurry Swasehally in his speech said, “Theatre is an advantage to get and distribute variety of experiences. There is a question about the participation of amateur group. My view is they also should participate in the competition. Through this one can gain the knowledge of discipline regarding theatre. Competitions help to understand the delicate matters regarding theatre. But competition is not a criterion to decide the potentiality of theatre. There is a social responsibility to theatre”.

Jurry Kulakarni said, “Theatre artists are like farmers. A farmer works hard to get the yield; so is a theatre artist. Theatre itself is an excellent stage”.

“Judjement is a great task. Drama competition is different from other competitions. Through competition we can learn new things and have great experiences” said Aruna Murty.

12 groups participated in three days drama competition. “suryasthadinda suryodayadavarege”of Drishyakavya group written by Siddalinga Pattanashetty and directed by C Nanjundegawda, “Naaviddeve” from Shirshi Kala group, written and directed by K R Prakash, “Gunamukha” of Bhoomigeetha Patla group, written by P Lankesh directed by Santhosh Nayak Patla, “Shoodra thapaswi” of Navasuma Udupi group, written by Kuvempu, directed by Balakrishna Kodavuru, “Aragina Betta” of Bhoomika Harady written by Huly Shekar and directed by B S Rama Shetty Harady, “Dasyada Sankole” of Sumanasa Kodavuru, written by Bhaskara Bhat and directed by Jayarama Neelavara and “Mandodari Ramayana” of Nama Tuluver Kalasanghatane of Mudrady group, written by Vyasa Deshpande and directed by Sukumar Mohan were exhibited.

Dr Swasehally Sathish, Dhananjay Kulkarni, Aruna Murthy were present as juries of the competition. They expressed their opinions and gave suggestions and wished good luck for the success of theatre.

Sundara Kotian, Avinash Kamath, Surendra Marnad, Harish Hebbar, K V R Aithal, Kavitha Swasehally, Supriya Hadapada, Kamalaksha Saraf, Mohan Marnad were honored for their cooperation.

Omdas Kannangar-Honarary secretary welcomed and delivered the introductory speech. Well-known musician Ramachandra Hadapada and group performed cultural programme. Surendra Marnad, K V R Aithal and Anitha Poojary Thakode introduced the guests. The former vice-president and theatre expert Dr.Bharath Kumar Polipu conducted the programme and announced the result.
