YAKSHAGANA, A TRADITIONAL CELEBRATION THAT ORIGINATED AMONG THE COMMON FOLK – MANOHAR NAYAK

Mumbai, Dec.12: Yakshagana is the tradition and heritage of our land. It is a traditional celebration originated in our land and it has three categories. The audiences are also the criticizers of Yakshagana – said Manohar Nayak the MD of Lingo India Pvt. Ltd.

He inaugurated the 16th yakshagana sahitya sammelana on Saturday at Sion Gita Govinda Hall, Mumbai which was sponsored by Mumbai Padaveedhara Yakshagana Samiti. He crowned Jayalaxmi Devadiga, the bhagavata on this occasion. Vidwan Veda Murthy Harinarayanadasa Asranna the pontiff of Sri Kshetra Kateel presided over the function.

Taranatha Varkady said, ‘this academy is getting annual grant of 1 crore rupees. Bayalaata mela is 25% excluding the yakshagana mela of 5 districts including Kasargod. Gombeyata (doll show) mela is also there. So the grant will be shared. The children have lots of burden and worry in today’s world. It’s a good sign that they are attracted towards this art to release their tensions. The effort of H.B.L Rao the president of Mumbai Padaveedhara Yakshagana Samiti is commendable”.

Yakshagana has lot of literature in the form of prasanga, himmela, mummela etc. The one who recites in mummela is absolutely a prose poet. Language is the media to transfer the feelings to another man. When this language becomes beautiful, rich and pleasant to the ears it is said literature. Yakshagana can convert the prose to poetry. Taalamaddale can convert the poetry to prose. Overall, Yakshagana consists of dance, prose, poetry –said Vidwan Harinarayanadasa Asranna the president of the programme.

H.B.L Rao the president of Mumbai Padaveedhara Yakshagana Samiti welcomed all. Kum Apoorva R Suratkal, Jayalaxmi Devadiga, Dr. Sahana Poti did bhagavatike. G.S. Nayak proposed the vote of thanks. Dr. Jyoti Satish presented the programme.

Various forms of arts related to yakshagana were exhibited before the inauguration.
