Government of India 68th Army Day Celebrations in Mumbai

Mumbai: The Indian Army commemorated its 68th Army Day with traditional solemnity and gaiety all across the country today. On this occasion, Major General Anuj Mathur, Officiating General Officer Commanding Maharashtra, Gujarat and Goa Area and other officers laid wreaths at the Kangra Udyan War Memorial at Colaba and paid homage to our valiant martyrs.

 

Major General Anuj Mathur addressed all Officers, Junior Commissioned Officers & other ranks during a special Sainik Sammelan organised at Colaba where the General Officer asked everyone to remember and be inspired by our brave Martyrs. Emphasising on the glorious past of the Indian Army, he urged the officers and men to ensure that the honour of the country and service is maintained in high regards, by the actions of each and every person in uniform. Sighting that Army is a distinct symbol of unity of our country; he explained the vital role Army plays in nation building. He also asked those present not to question what the country can do for you but to answer what you can do for the country.

As a part of the celebrations, events such as Sainik Sammelan and Sainik Bhoj are being organised in many units and station across the country. Army Day marks the taking over of reins of our Country’s Army by General (Later Field Marshal) KM Carriappa from Gen Sir FRR Butcher, the last British Commander in Chief of India on 15 January 1949.
