Mumbai: Governor launches Armed Forces Flag Day Fund Collection Drive at Raj Bhavan The Governor of Maharashtra Ch Vidyasagar Rao today launched the Armed Forces Flag Day Fund Collection drive for year 2015-16 by making a contribution to the Flag Fund.The programme organized by the Collectorates of Mumbai City and Mumbai Suburban districts was held at Raj Bhavan, Mumbai.Observing that Armed Forces make significant contribution both during war like situation and during natural or manmade calamities, the Governor said the Flag Day provides the nation an opportunity to express its gratefulness to the officers and jawans of the Armed Forces. In this connection, he applauded the work being done by the Armed Forces in Chennai in the aftermath of the recent spell of heavy rains.Mentioning that the maximum recruitment in the Armed Forces came from Maharashtra, he felt that the Armed Forces Flag day should be utilized to create awareness among schools and colleges about the exciting career opportunities in the Armed Forces of India.

The Governor also expressed the need to create Guidance Centres in all districts for informing the youths about the career opportunities in the Armed Forces and for providing them training for NDA and other exams.

Lt Gen Bipin Rawat, General Officer Commanding in Chief, Maharashtra, Gujarat and Goa Area, Vice Admiral R Hari Kumar, Chief of Staff, Western Naval Command, Shri Shyamlal Goyal, Principal Secretary, General Administration Department, Shri Tanaji Satre, Divisional Commissioner, Konkan Division, Col Suhas Jatkar, Director, Sainik Welfare, Shri Shekhar Channe, Collector, Mumbai Suburban District and representatives of various organisations were present
