Maharashtra Governor presents Yash Chopra Memorial National Award to actress Rekha

Mumbai:The Governor of Maharashtra Ch Vidyasagar Rao presented the 3rd Yash Chopra Memorial National Award to veteran actress Rekha at a glittering function held at Hotel J W Marriott (Juhu) in Mumbai on Monday (25 Jan). The Award instituted by the TSR Foundation carries a prize amount of Rs.10 lakh, a golden bracelet and a citation.

Paying rich tributes to Rekha for her versatility, the Governor said Rekha possesses infinite potential as an actress and as a human being. “She has distinguished herself with her caliber, capacity and conduct,” said the Governor.

Mentioning that the Indian Cinema has much larger audience than even Hollywood films, the Governor said Bollywood should use its popularity and potential to promote and foster friendship among nations of the world.


Shatrughna Sinha, MP, Sushil Kumar Shinde, Subbarami Reddy, Venugopal Dhoot, actress Sridevi, Jaya Prada, Boney Kapoor, Gulshan Grover, Ranbir Singh, Mohan Babu, Subhash Ghai, Pamela Chopra and others were present on the occasion.

Bharat Ratna Lata Mangeshkar and Amitabh Bachchan are the past recipients of the Yash Chopra National Memorial Award.
