Sena man held for assaulting policewoman

Mumbai (The Hindu): The Thane Police on Thursday arrested a Shiv Sena member from Thane for allegedly assaulting a traffic policewoman in full public view after she tried to penalise him for talking on his cellphone while driving. The accused was granted bail on Friday, but was once again taken into preventive custody, as the police found out that he had three past cases of serious assault against him.

The accused has been identified as Shashikant Kalgude (44), a resident of Kapurbawdi.

The police said the woman constable made Kalgude stop his vehicle after she saw him speaking on his phone. He stepped out of the vehicle and assaulted her repeatedly till a couple of people intervened and called the police. Kalgude was arrested and charged with assault to deter a public servant from discharging their duties and with outraging the modesty of a woman.
