Mumbai (The Hindu): Daring Prime Minister Narendra Modi to campaign in Mumbai, Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray on Monday said he wants to witness the Sena’s victory in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) polls despite Mr. Modi’s campaigning.

“I am waiting to see whether Prime Minister Narendra Modi will campaign for the BJP in Mumbai. I want to witness the Sena’s victory after his (Mr. Modi’s) rally. In Bihar, Modiji was almost auctioning from the podium and Lalu Prasad Yadav made a mockery of him. Modiji was defeated.”

At an election rally in Chandivli, Mr. Thackeray said the people of Mumbai know who lands in the city for campaigning and who stands with them in the hour of need. Referring to the demonetisation move announced by the Central government, Mr. Thackeray called it a ‘mockery’ of traders.

Taking potshots at the Prime Minister, who recently held the stone-laying ceremonies of the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj memorial in the Arabian Sea and the Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar memorial at Indu mill in 2015, Mr. Thackeray said it should be investigated as to whether conducting such ceremonies without tenders amounts to a crime or not.

Ridiculing the BJP move of taking oath of transparency at Hutatma Chowk, Mr. Thackeray said all works done by the BMC are available online for which no one even needs to file an RTI application.

“The Chief Minister should tell us who supported his government before we (Sena) extended our support. How did he manage the majority? This CM talks one thing inside the Assembly and the other outside. The package of ?6,500 crore promised to the Kalyan Dombivli Corporation is yet to be delivered. The CM has duped them,” alleged the Sena leader.
