20 candidates in fray for bypolls to Hebbal Assembly constituency

Bengaluru, DHNS: As many as 20 candidates, including those fielded by the Congress, the BJP and the JD(S), have remained in the fray in the byelections to Hebbal Assembly constituency, the polling for which is scheduled on February 13.

Two independent candidates, Mohammed Ayub and R Padmanabhan, withdrew from the fray on Saturday, the last day for withdrawing the nomination papers. Of the total 20 candidates in the fray, 11 are independents.

The ruling Congress has fielded C K Abdul Rahaman Sharief, who is a grandson of senior leader C K Jaffer Sharief, BJP has fielded Y A Narayanaswamy and Ismail Sharieff Nana is the JD(S) candidate.

Campaign
The Congress and the BJP will hit the campaign trail on Sunday. While Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and KPCC president G Parameshwara are scheduled to jointly campaign for the party candidate, Union Law Minister D V Sadananda Gowda and former minister Katta Subramanya Naidu are scheduled to campaign for the BJP candidate in the constituency.
This apart, an independent candidate, Babu Pasha, has withdrawn his nomination papers in the Bidar Assembly constituency.

A total of ten candidates are in the fray in Bidar. In Devadurga, four candidates are in the fray.
