441 applicants get placed on day one of Alva’s job fair

Mangaluru (The Hindu): A large number of job aspirants took part on the first day of the two-day Alvas Pragati-2017 job fair held on Alvas College premises in Moodbidri on Saturday. Minister for Fisheries, Sports and Youth Services Pramod Madhwaraj inaugurated the event.

According to a press release by the Alvas Education Foundation, 11,000 of the 11,570 job aspirants, who registered online for the event, attended on Saturday. As many as 206 firms are participating.

On the first day, 1,348 applicants were found to have qualifications required for jobs offered by 82 firms. Of them, 441 applicants were offered jobs after completion of the final selection process. Among those who received offer letters included 59 from Dollar Advisory firm, 29 from Tech Mahindra and 43 from the Karvy Data Management Services Ltd.

Among the arrangements made for the job aspirants included display of jobs on LED screens with colour coding that makes it easy to identify jobs for a particular education qualification. The Alvas Education Foundation has also set up employment enhancement centre to guide job aspirants, the release said.

Inaugurating the event, Mr. Madhwaraj said recruiters give more preference for skill and competence of candidates than their academic qualification. It was inevitable for job aspirants to develop skills that are required for jobs. Mr. Madhwaraj said the State government’s Skill Development Department has taken up the task of developing skills of job aspirants in the State.
