Bengaluru: In an unfortunate incident, a 74-year-old Jordanian national was arrested on Thursday for allegedly raping his 13-year-old granddaughter for the last three years at his residence. Police said that the man was allegedly abusing the girl ever since she turned 10 by threatening her that he would file a theft case against her and she would be sent to a juvenile home.

The matter came to light after school authorities questioned the girl following some behavioural changes in her. The minor broke into tears and revealed her plight.

School authorities summoned her mother and alerted her of the situation. The mother, a local resident, had married the accused’s son who works with a major IT firm in the city.

The couple have been living separately since 2013, and has three children, two boys and a girl. The girl was living with the father’s family in the city. The mother decided to approach the Pulakeshinagar police and an FIR was lodged against the accused under sections 12, 4, 7, 8, and 6 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) act and for rape, sexual harassment and criminal intimidation under Indian Penal Code.
