95 schools from Dakshina Kannada in 100 p.c. club

Mangaluru (The Hindu): There are 394 schools in the district where more than 80 per of the students have passed the Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) exams. Of them, 95 have achieved cent per cent result.

As many as 31,013 students from 495 schools across the district had sat for the exams. Of them, 27,328 have passed. While one government school has a zero per cent result (all five students failed to pass), one unaided school has a pass percentage below 40.

Interestingly, students from rural areas have performed better than their urban counterparts. As many as 16,493 students from rural areas passed, as opposed to 10,835 from urban pockets. This included 14,354 girls and 12,974 boys.

Of those who passed, 9,298 students are from unaided schools, 9,715 from aided and 8,315 from government schools. About 97.3 per cent of the students in the district have passed in the first language, while 95.1 per cent passed in the second language, 94.4 per cent in the 3rd language, 93.6 per cent in social science, 92.7 per cent in science and 92 per cent in mathematics.

Beating the odds

Specially-abled students too have performed remarkably. All three visually challenged students who wrote the exams have passed. Of the 13 physically challenged children, 11 have cleared the exams, while of the 14 with hearing disability, six have passed. Of the 85 children with special learning disability, 55 have passed. One student with multiple disabilities could not clear the exams.

The district has been ranked 10 in terms of performance of students from Morarji Desai and Kittur Rani Chennamma residential schools. As many as 340 of the 347 students from these schools have passed.
