Bengaluru, DHNS The Karnataka Rajya Tengu Belegarara Kampanigala Samanvaya Samiti hosted a programme with MLAs and MLCs in the City on Tuesday to discuss the benefits of allowing neera tapping in the State.
The discussion was held in the wake of the forthcoming State budget so as to persuade the legislators to raise a voice in the Assembly demanding the government to allow neera tapping by amending the Excise Act.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in the last year’s budget (2015-16) had announced that neera tapping will be allowed in the State by amending the Excise Act but it has not been brought into reality even a year later. Former MLC Manohar Maski, president of the Samiti, gave a powerpoint presentation on the options available to explore byproducts from neera. He said that Kerala has set up neera-processing plants which produce many byproducts.
