BJP, Congress in full strength as Vala takes over as Governor

Bangalore: Bharatiya Janata Party cadre turned up in full strength at the swearing-in of veteran BJP?leader Vajubhai Rudabhai Vala as Governor at Raj Bhavan on Monday.

Surprisingly, the event also witnessed top State leaders from ruling Congress too marking their attendance.

Chief Justice of Karnataka High Court D H Waghela administered the oath of office at the Glass House in Raj Bhavan for Vala, who is the 17th Governor of Karnataka.

Union Ministers D V Sadananda Gowda and Ananth Kumar, BJP?State President Pralhad Joshi, BJP National Vice President B?S?Yeddyurappa, Leader of Opposition in Legislative Assembly Jagadish Shettar, former deputy chief ministers K S Eshwarappa and R?Ashoka, a host of MPs, MLAs and MLCs attended the function.

Congress leaders too made a beeline. Besides Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, eight ministers, including R VDeshpande, K J George, Roshan Baig, H Anjaneya, Dinesh Gundu Rao attended the ceremony.

The brief ceremony commenced with Chief Secretary Kaushik Mukherjee reading out the warrant of appointment of governor signed by President Pranab Mukherjee.

Siddaramaiah, who on Sunday had expressed his unhappiness over not being
consulted by the Centre, was the first to greet Vala after the swearing-in. Basavaraj Horatti was the lone representative from the JD(S).

Several of Vala’s family members attended the event. Seers from Swami Narayana Temple in Bhuj and Aksharadhama Temple were special invitees.

Vala, with RSS background, had served as finance minister in the Narendra Modi government in Gujarat with a record of having presented the state budget 18 times.
He was the Speaker of the Gujarat Assembly before being appointed to the constitutional post.

High-tea
The high-tea which followed the ceremony had a distinct Gujarati flavour, with dhokla, the traditional cuisine, figuring in the menu.
