Mangaluru (The Hindu): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has been elected to lead the newly constituted Kotekar and Vitla town panchayats in Dakshina Kannada.
The results of the elections, conducted on Sunday, were announced on Wednesday. Of the 17 seats in Kotekar Town Panchayat in Mangaluru taluk, the BJP has bagged nine, followed by the Congress with four. The Communist Party of India (Marxist) and the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) have won one seat each, while the Independents won two seats.
In Vitla Town Panchayat, Bantwal taluk, there were 18 seats up for grabs. The BJP has won 12 seats, leaving the other six for Congress.
“[The BJP’s] victory is an indication of the results of next Assembly elections,” said K. Pratapsimha Nayak, president of the Dakshina Kannada unit of the party.
