Bengaluru, (DHNS): The state BJP leaders on Friday urged Governor Vajubhai Vala to disqualify eight MLCs, including R B Timmapur, for furnishing false information to include their names in electoral rolls in Bengaluru last year.

In a memorandum submitted to the governor, the party also urged him to take action against Chief Minister Siddaramaiah for “aiding and abetting” the MLCs to commit the offence to enable them to vote in the mayoral election last year.

The memorandum was submitted by a delegation of party leaders led by Opposition leader in the Legislative Assembly Jagadish Shettar.

“The MLCs — R B Thimmapur, Allum Veerabhadrappa, Raghu Achar, N S Boseraju, S Ravi (all Congress), C R Manohar and Appaji Gowda (JD-S) and M D Lakshminarayana (Independent) — have indulged in foul play with an ulterior motive to vote in the mayoral election.

It is a clear violation of section 31 of the Representation of People Act (RPA) of 1951 by providing false information to the Election Commission,” the party stated.

According to the RPA, there has to be a seven-day notice from the day of applying to get the name entered in the voters’ list and the actual date of entering of the names.

“In this particular instance, the MLCs got their names entered in the electoral roll within 24 hours. The mandatory seven days’ notice period was clearly violated,” the party said.

Besides, the MLCs have claimed travel and dearness allowance from the Karnataka Legislative Council declaring their residential addresses in their native districts. “A fraud of this nature could not have taken place without the support and participation of the chief minister for which suitable action should be initiated against him,” the BJP added.
