Udupi, (The Hindu): Mattar Ratnakar Hegde, president of the Udupi district unit of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), said on Thursday that the party would win all the five Assembly constituencies of Udupi district in the State Assembly elections.

Addressing presspersons here, Mr. Hegde said that after the completion of filing of nomination papers in the district, the atmosphere in the district had changed and become favourable to the party. The people had realised the work undertaken by the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government at the Centre for their welfare through schemes, including construction of toilets for all houses and provision of LPG gas cylinders, he said.

The then United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government at the Centre had not taken up such activities during its 10-year rule. The Siddaramaiah government too had little to show in terms of welfare in the State. The NDA government had provided integrated and comprehensive development in all parts of the country, he said.

Since the Congress had realised that it could not win the State Assembly elections, it was now spreading misleading information that there would be a hung Assembly. The fact was that the BJP would come to power with a comfortable majority in the State, he said.

PM interaction

Mr. Hegde said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had interacted with candidates, office-bearers and elected representatives in the State live on the NaMo App. V. Sunil Kumar, BJP candidate from Karkala, had got an opportunity to speak to Mr. Modi during the interaction.

He said that Mr. Kumar had asked Mr. Modi a question on improving campaigning. Mr. Modi had said that there should be an equal number of men and women party workers working at the booth level and that they should retain touch with the voters in their respective booths, Mr. Hegde said.

Public meeting

Mr. Modi will address a public meeting at the MGM College Grounds at around 3 p.m. here on May 1. Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh
