Bus employees collect money for college girl

Published On : 29 Mar 2016

Udupi (The Hindu): Drivers, conductors and cleaners of Udupi city buses collected Rs. 1.15 lakh and presented it to Geeta, a 19-year-old girl who is suffering from sickle cell anaemia, here on Monday.

The amount was presented to her at a function held at the city bus stand, in the presence of Superintendent of Police K. Annamalai.

The bus drivers and conductors kept collection boxes in the city buses and at the City Bus Stand, and collected the amount. Sridhar Palan, Haneef and Santosh Kumar, city bus employees, played an important role in organising their colleagues.

“When we learnt that Ms. Geeta is suffering from sickle-cell anaemia and that her college mates and some organisations are contributing for her treatment, we thought that we too should collect as much money as possible and help her,” said Mr. Santosh Kumar, a bus conductor. Mr. Annamalai said that the bus drivers and conductors had sent a positive message to the society through their exemplary conduct of helping a person in need. This gesture would help Ms. Geeta, he added.
