CET: many avoid biology paper

Mysuru (The Hindu): The Common Entrance Test (CET) for admissions to professional courses began at 19 centres across the city on Wednesday.

The test began with Biology paper at 10 a.m. in which 7,393 students appeared out of 9,606 students who had registered for the test. As many as 2,213 students did not turn up.

Deputy Director of Pre-university Education K.M. Puttu told The Hindu that 9,088 students out of 9,606 students appeared for Mathematics subject.

About 518 students did not appear for the test.

The examination was held between 10 a.m. and 11.50 a.m. and 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Mr. Puttu said that the test went on smoothly at all centres located in the city.

Four squads, including one headed by the Deputy Commissioner, had been formed to oversee the conduct of the test.

Besides this, there are teams of officials, including Mr. Puttu, for all the centres to supervise the smooth conduct of the test.

The centres are: Maharaja’s College, Marimallappa’s College, D. Banumaiah’s College, GSSS Badri Prasad College, Teresian College, Vidya Vikas College, St. Philomena’s College, Vijaya Vittala College, JSS Women’s College in Saraswathipuram, Mahajana College, Chinmaya PU College, Vivekananda College, Government College in Kuvempunagar, MMK and SDM College, Sarada Vilas College, Gopalaswamy PU College, JSS College on Ooty Road, Government College at People’s Park.

The city police have imposed ban orders under Section 144 of the Cr.Pc around a 200-metre radius of all the examination centres here from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. till May 6.

All photocopying places located in the vicinity of the centres had been asked to remain closed and only authorised persons, including the staff, would be allowed inside the centres, according to the police.
