Class 12 students find maths paper tough

Published On : 15 Mar 2016

Mangaluru (The Hindu): Many Class 12 students studying in the CBSE syllabus, who appeared for the mathematics examination on Tuesday, found it tough, according to students, teachers and parents.

They said that the question paper was too lengthy as it had more number of application questions. Unable to answer all questions, students were seen crying outside the examination centres.

Nearly 240 students from two Kendriya Vidyalayas and other CBSE schools wrote the examination here. Mathematics was the ninth paper they wrote after the exam began from March 1.

A student from Kendriya Vidyalaya No.1 said the mathematics paper had more number of lengthy questions.

“The one-mark question was of four-marks type and the four-mark question was of six-marks type. We had to do four to five steps to get the answer for a one-mark question.” Unlike the past, the question paper was loaded with questions that were difficult to answer.

Sushma, the principal of Sharada Vidyaniketan, said there were more application-type questions and a few questions from the text book.

“We are shocked of the nature of the question paper. Even bright students have found it difficult to answer,” she said and added that students were worried of the prospects of writing the paper once again. “We are sending a detailed note about the paper to CBSE on Tuesday,” she added.

Babu Kutty, a mathematics teacher from Kendriya Vidyalaya I, Panambur, said that in the earlier question papers the difficulty quotient was 50 per cent. “But this time questions are difficult from the first to the last,” Mr. Kutty said adding that it was unfair to subject all students through such a paper.
