Mysuru (DHNS): Six persons, including three on Monday, filed nominations for the Nanjangud Assembly seat bypoll, while only two persons — Geetha Mahadev Prasad (Cong) and C S Niranjan Kumar (BJP) - filed their papers in Gundlupet till Monday evening. The nomination process was peaceful in Nanjangud, but there was an altercation between Congress and BJP workers in Gundlupet. Police had to use mild caning to bring the situation under control.

In Nanjangud, a SC reserve constituency, former minister V Srinivas Prasad filed papers as BJP candidate. Kalale N Keshavamurthy, the Congress candidate, also filed his papers. Prasad defected to the BJP from Congress after he was dropped from the Cabinet last June. He resigned as MLA and also from the primary membership of the Congress.

The bypoll was necessitated in Gundlupet following the death of Cooperation Minister H S Mahadev Prasad. Prasad’s wife Geetha and BJP candidate Niranjan filed the papers on Monday.

Keshavamurthy does not have a PAN card even though he has moveable assets worth Rs 34.31 lakh and immovable assets worth Rs 90 lakh. The information was revealed in the affidavit filed by Keshavamurthy with his nomination papers.

According to the affidavit of Srinivas Prasad, he has movable assets worth Rs 3.33 crore, while his wife has Rs 10.60 lakh worth of immovable assets. Their total immovable assets are worth Rs 3.17 crore.
