New Delhi, DHNS: Congress on Sunday decided to field Kalale N Keshavmurthy and M P Mohanakumari as its candidates for the Assembly bypoll in Karnataka.

While Keshavmurthy will be in the fray from Nanjangud Assembly seat, Mohanakumari alias Geetha will be the candidate from Gundlupet constituency. The proposal for their candidature was approved by Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi, AICC general secretary Madhusudan Mistry said in a statement here.

The Nanjangud seat fell vacant after Congress veteran V Srinivas Prasad resigned in December, as he was dropped from the cabinet by the chief minister. In Gundlupet, the byelection became necessary following the death of minister H C Mahadeva Prasad in January.
