Bengaluru, DHNS: BJP veteran says the grand old party's plight will continue. Veteran BJP leader and MP Murli Manohar Joshi on Sunday said the Congress is now facing the consequences of the Emergency imposed on the country in 1975 by the then prime minister Indira Gandhi.

He was in Benglauru to participate in a programme organised by Bengaluru unit of the BJP at Keshava Krupa, the headquarters of the RSS to mark the 41st anniversary of the Emergency. Speaking to the media on the sidelines, Joshi said people themselves would give an apt reply to anti-people decisions. That’s the fate of that party. The plight of the Congress would continue.

Referring to the killing of soldiers in Kashmir, the BJP leader said that eight soldiers have fallen to the bullets of terrorists. India knows how to teach a lesson to Pakistan. At the same time, steps should be taken to punish those who are in India and leaking important information to terrorists, he added.

The former union minister said that no Leftist leader had opposed the imposition of Emergency and had gone to jail. When the Communist leader Jyoti Basu was requested to extend his support to the anti-Emergency agitation, he had said the his party does not have sufficient workers, Joshi recalled.

Fighting against the Emergency was like second freedom movement. It was a movement by people. As much as 99% of those who participated in the movement were from the Jan Sangh. Some socialists were also part of the movement, he added.

Addressing the gathering, Union Urban Development Minister M Venkaiah Naidu said chapters on the Emergency should be included in textbooks. There are chapters on Jayaprakash Narayan. Similarly, children should be told about the history of the Emergency period too, he added.

Naidu said there is intolerance in the country and the Congress and the Left parties have been screaming that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is conducting himself as a dictator. These parties have not been able to tolerate the support enjoyed by Modi, he stated.

He said that in the recent years, around 1,200 persons were presented with various academy awards. Only 37 of them have returned the awards to the government. Those Leftists who did not raise their voice against the Emergency are not commenting on the returning of awards, he said.
