Bengaluru, (DHNS): The state Congress on Monday said that the party will press for the use of ballot papers in place of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) in the upcoming Assembly election following the party's defeat in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh Assembly elections.

Speaking to reporters in Bengaluru, KPCC president G Parameshwara said an American university had proved that the EVMs can be tampered with. Hence, the party will soon urge the Election Commission of India (ECI) to use ballot papers in the coming Assembly polls, he added.

KPCC working president Dinesh Gundu Rao said the party will seriously look into the possibility of using ballot papers.

"We want a foolproof system in place. Even an error of 1% can make a huge difference in the election results," he stated. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had recently said that he will soon write to the ECI seeking use of ballot papers in the next election.
