Bengaluru: The ruling Congress has won in both Nanjangud and Gundlupet assembly constituencies against its rival BJP in the byelections.

Congress Kalale Keshavamurthy won against his rival V Srinivas Prasad of BJP in Nanjangud.
M C Mohana Kumari won Gundlupet bypolls with 87,253 votes. BJP's CS Niranjan Kumar got 75,199 votes.

"We have to learn from our mistakes in this bye-poll so that it does not repeat in 2018. This is the voters choice. They elected whom they saw fit," said BS Yeddyurappa.

Polling for both the seats was held on April 9. The bypolls are considered as prestige battle for the two national parties. The results are seen as pointer to the crucial assembly elections to be held next year.

Byelection in Nanjangud was necessitated due to the resignation of Srinivas Prasad as the Congress MLA. He later quit Congress and joined BJP to contest the bypoll. In Gundlupet, bypoll is necessitated due to the death of H S Mahadeva Prasad. Congress candidate MC Mohana Kumari is the wife of late Mahadeva Prasad.
