Deralakatte incident: Doctors protest police ‘inaction’

Published On : 30 Aug 2015

Mangaluru (The Hindu): Doctors, under the aegis of Association of Medical Consultants, in Ullal staged a protest on Saturday condemning what they termed as “increased attacks” on them.

This is in the background of the alleged assault of a resident doctor and a nurse, and damage to equipment at the intensive care unit of a private hospital in Deralakatte on August 17.

Bharat Shetty from the Indian Dental Association said police have to taken stern action against the attackers. “Police cannot tide over the complaint. Those involved in the attack should be arrested,” he said. Dr. Shetty accused police of treating complaints of attacks on doctors lightly while taking cognisance of complaints accusing doctors of medico-negligence. “Cases are immediately booked and we are subjected to examination without an inquiry by Karnataka Medical Council over the alleged medico-negligence.”
