Mangaluru (The Hindu): ‘People should resort to legal measures to question politicians’.Rajya Sabha member Oscar Fernandes has said that the issue of diary allegedly containing details of payments to some Congress leaders could be decided as per law or within the legal framework.

Speaking to presspersons here on Wednesday, Mr. Fernandes said people could make allegations and counter-allegations on various issues. If anyone was found guilty on the issue of the diary, then law would take its own course, he said.

Politicians have to face problems in their career. They were also answerable to people. “People should resort to legal measures to question politicians within the parameters of law and get answers,” he said.

He dodged a query on whether a CBI enquiry should be ordered on the issue of diaries containing payments made to political leaders.

“It is not for me to say. Even a State cannot straight away say that CBI should enquire. The CBI should accept, sometimes, the State should accept,” he said.

On several senior Congress leaders, including B. Janardhan Poojary and H. Vishwanath, speaking openly questioning the State government, Mr. Fernandes said that the high command had already sent a directive to the State unit to take all senior leaders together with it. This directive was also a guideline to those questioning the government, he said. Asked about media reports about the former MP, K. Jayaprakash Hegde, joining the BJP, Mr. Fernandes said, “We take steps to strengthen our party. They (BJP) take measures to strengthen their party.”
