Shivamogga, DHNS: Leader of Opposition in Legislative Council K S Eshwarappa on Wednesday said that the state BJP unit’s decision to exclude him from drought survey teams has disappointed the party workers more.

Speaking to DH over the phone, he said it is the duty of the state BJP president to do justice to them. “I have already toured the drought-hit districts across the state to assess the crop loss. So, it has not affected me much. I have held meetings with deputy commissioners of drought-hit districts and asked them to provide drought relief.

I have also urged the state government to waive farm loans borrowed from co-operative banks at the earliest. The issue of loan waiver will be raised in the coming legislature session,” he added. Eshwarappa said he will accompany Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and leaders of other parties to New Delhi to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and urge him to release drought relief funds and waive farm loans borrowed from nationalised banks.
