Mangaluru,(THe Hindu): Heavy rain early on Friday caused severe damage in several parts of Dakshina Kannada district.

Four vehicles were damaged in Babugudde after a huge tree fell on them following lightning around 4 a.m. The tree fall damaged two electricity poles and a transformer, leading to power shutdown in the area. This also blocked movement of vehicles on the road connecting Marnamikatte and Attavar.

MESCOM personnel placed new poles and a transformer in the evening. Traffic movement was restored only late at night.

New public well damaged

Lightning also damaged the newly constructed public open well in Mukwe near Puttur built at a cost of 3.5 lakh. The district control room received a complaint from a resident of Mulihitlu about water entering the house. The fire and emergency services personnel rushed to the place.
