II PU exam: biology was tough

Published On : 12 Mar 2016

Mangaluru (The Hindu): While those who wrote biology paper were worried of losing marks for not answering some indirect one-mark questions, there were smiles on the faces of those who wrote the electronics paper as the II PU exam began here on Friday.

The examination will be on till March 28.

Yashwanti, a student of Government PU College, Balmatta, said that a few questions in the biology paper were ticklish. “It tested our understanding of basic concepts,” she said. Yashwanti’s classmate Ashila said that other questions were easy to answer. “I am confident of scoring good marks in biology,” she said.

Vivan Saldanha and Christon Gonsalves of St. Aloysius College said that they were better prepared to face the examination which had questions from the entire syllabus. Mr. Gonsalves said that he focussed more on the topics he was confident of writing.

Botony lecturer P. Jayashri of Government PU College said the pattern of questions in the botany paper was not different from those in the three sets of model question papers that the students were provided. “It was not difficult to pass. But those wanting to score cent-per-cent had to crack their heads,” said Pramila Patrao, biology lecturer, St. Aloysius PU College.

Students, who wrote the electronics paper, were relieved to find the questions easy. “The portions that we covered were quite exhaustive. I am relieved to see the smiling faces of students after coming out of the examination hall,” said electronics lecturer Nancy Dias of St. Aloysius College. She said that one question was repeated in the question paper.

In all, 8,266 students wrote biology paper, while 872 students wrote electronics paper on Friday. As many as 24 students remained absent. A total of 34,760 students are writing the examinations from the district this year.
