Mandya (The Hindu): Upset with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah for dropping Congress leader M.H. Ambareesh from the State Cabinet, a woman Congress worker allegedly attempted self-immolation here on Monday afternoon.

However, she was rescued by party workers and woman police constables.

The police identified the woman as Kanakamma of Bevinahalli. She did not have a lighter or a matchbox on her person when she attempted suicide.

According to the police, some members of Woman’s Wing of the Mandya District Congress Committee were protesting near Sri Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar Circle on the Bengaluru-Mysuru Highway against the dropping of Mr. Ambareesh from the Cabinet.

Ms. Kanakamma poured kerosene on herself, raised slogans against the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) and Mr. Siddaramaiah, and threatened to set herself on fire.
