Inauguration of Mini Vidhana Soudha tomorrow

Mangaluru (The Hindu): More than seven years after its construction began, the Mini Vidhana Soudha building at Hampankatta in the heart of the city is ready for inauguration on Sunday.

It would house offices relating to Mangaluru taluk administration under one roof.

The building would have the taluk office, the office of the Assistant Commissioner, Mangaluru sub-division, offices of sub-registrar and land records, ‘padasale’ of revenue department – all presently housed in the Deputy Commissioner’s office premises – and the office of cooperative audit which is now near Hampankatta post office.

The major beneficiary of the new Rs. 7.50 crore building would be the taluk office, office of sub-registrar and ‘padasale’ which are presently housed in old dilapidated buildings in the premises of the Deputy Commissioner’s office.

The construction of the building began in 2008-09 with a Rs. 2 crore grant. Later the government released Rs. 1.50 crore in the second instalment and in 2011 the government released Rs. 4 crore.

The new building has a cellar, ground plus two floors with 3,712 sq. mts. of floor area.

According to the office of the Deputy Commissioner, the new building has been built to strengthen the taluk administration under one roof.

Among others who are expected to attend the inaugural ceremony are Revenue Minister V. Srinivasa Prasad, Minister for Public Works H.C. Mahadevappa and Minister in-charge of Dakshina Kannada B. Ramanath Rai.
