Bengaluru, DHNS: Intelligence reports hinted she was in constant touch with BJP leaders. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah decided to accept DySP Anupama Shenoy’s resignation after consulting Home Minister G Parameshwara and advisor to Home Minister Kempaiah as her conduct had irked the state government and embarrassed the police top brass, according to senior officers in the Home Department.

“Anupama did not meet Ballari SP R Chetan to clarify her stand and withdraw resignation as was expected. Instead she appeared before media in Kudligi on Thursday and reiterated her stand which is violation of service rule. She did not mend her ways and, her conduct did not go well with the government. Siddaramaiah was unwilling to act against Ballari district minister P T Parameshwara Naik which Anupama was anticipating. Hence, the government accepted her resignation late in the evening,” an officer said.

The government’s decision was also based on the inputs provided by the intelligence wing of the state police.

There were specific reports that Anupama was in constant touch with two women leaders from the BJP, one a former minister and the other a sitting MLC. The two leaders had advised her to quit her job and join the BJP which has a strong hold in the coastal region from where Anupama hails. She almost decided to follow their advice, the officer added.

The BJP has been planning to strengthen the youth wing of the party and had planned to rope in Anupama. She was not getting along well with the police department after her confrontation with minister Parameshwara Naik in January, said sources.

Sedition charge?

The police have decided to slap sedition charge against those who posted anti-state content using Anupama’s Facebook account.

Anupama on Thursday claimed that she never had any Facebook account. But there exists a Facebook account in Anupama Shenoy’s name since October 2012. Many officers in the department, journalists and Anupama’s close friends are among those in her contact list. Hence, her claims of not operating a Facebook account are hard to digest, a senior officer told Deccan Herald.

“The department will slap sedition charge against the one who used the Facebook account in Anupama’s name and posted content in the last few days. Action will be taken against Anupama if she is found to have operated her Facebook account and posted such stuff. However, sedition charge will not be slapped against her in that case as people are free to air anti-government observations,” he said.
