It’s ‘immoral rowdyism’, not ‘moral policing’: SP

Published On : 26 Nov 2015

Mangaluru (The Hindu): Superintendent of Police Sharanappa S.D. on Wednesday has urged the media and others not to use the word “moral policing” and instead call it “immoral rowdyism”.

At a peace committee meeting, he said that using “moral policing” only encouraged anti-social elements or those who took law into their hands to continue their “rowdyism” as the word gave them “moral strength”. Earlier a participant told the meeting that cattle transportation and “moral policing” incidents were primarily responsible for communal unrest in the district.

He suggested that local television channels should not conduct panel discussions during the communal unrest as it would only aggravate the tension.

The district administration should monitor it.

Deputy Commissioner A.B. Ibrahim said that he did inform the channels about it recently and since then they have stopped it.
