KMF reverts to earlier colour scheme for curd packets

Published On : 28 Nov 2015

Mangaluru (The Hindu): Consumers in coastal Karnataka began to get it from Friday. After facing the wrath of consumers for changing the colour scheme of its popular Nandini curd packet to blue, the Karnataka Cooperative Milk Producers Federation (KMF) has reverted to the old colour scheme – chocolate and yellow.

While consumers in coastal Karnataka and parts of Bengaluru began to get the curd packets in old colour scheme from Friday, other milk unions in the State, will follow suit.

KMF managing director Rakesh Singh told The Hindu that the unions would have to exhaust the polythene films of blue colour before reverting back to the old colour scheme.

Complaints galore

The milk cooperative giant had experimented with blue colour scheme for the curd packets last month following the colour-scheme’s success in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh, said sources in the KMF.

However, consumers in Karnataka, who were accustomed to the original colour scheme of chocolate-yellow, were a confused lot. Added to the confusion was the fact that the KMF’s another popular product, Nandini skimmed milk, too was coming in blue packets.

As such, a majority of consumers were picking up curd packets for milk packets and vice-versa. While the front of the packets had a small green strip, the back completely resembled the skimmed milk packet, which is popular among consumers.

Distributors too were flooded with complaints from customers who picked up curd packets mistaking it for milk packets. Delivery boys too were affected, as they undertook distribution early in the morning. Often, they exchanged the products during the delivery inviting consumers’ wrath.

The KMF was under attack from all quarters – consumers and dealers. When The Hindu brought this to KMF’s notice during November first week, the management had promised to revert to the old colour scheme.
