Karwar, (DHNS): A 39-year-old cook from Karwar was abducted and killed by unidentified gunmen in Kabul, Afghanistan, on Thursday. The deceased has been identified as Patson Rodriguez, a resident of Christian Wada near Kadawada in Karwar taluk. Alex D'Silva, a relative of Rodriguez, told media persons that the latter used to call his family members every morning. "He went to work on Thursday morning after making a call to his house. Later, we came to know from the media that four armed men abducted three foreigners, including Rodriguez, and killed them. Rodriguez was working for Sodexo, a hospitality company, and was staying in Kabul for the past 10 years. He is survived by his wife, five-year-old son and parents. He had come to his village on May 15 and returned to Kabul after celebrating his marriage anniversary on May 27. Rodriguez was the sole breadwinner of the family, according to relatives.

Before shifting to Kabul, Rodriguez was working in the motor rewinding sector in Karwar. He had studied a course relating to hotel management in Goa. Some people from Hotegali village of the taluk, too, were working with him in Kabul, according to his relatives. Deputy Commissioner S S Nakul said that the district administration has not received any official information about the abduction and murder. He said he would discuss the issue with the family upon receiving the information.

Mortal remains
The mortal remains of Rodriguez will be brought back to India either on Saturday or Sunday. The Embassy of India in Kabul is making arrangements for the repatriation of the remains. Sources said that the post-mortem could not be conducted on Friday, as it was a holiday in Afghanistan. It will be possibly done on Saturday. The Embassy of India in Kabul has already made arrangements with the Air India to send his mortal remains to New Delhi on Saturday evening. If it is not possible to conduct the post-mortem on Saturday, the body will be repatriated on Sunday, sources said.
