Land for rehabilitation centre forendosulfan victims identified

Udupi (The Hindu): Deputy Commissioner Priyanka Mary Francis said on Thursday that land had been identified for the construction of rehabilitation centre for victims of the insecticide, endosulfan, at Karkala and Chara in Udupi district. She was chairing a meeting of the Department of Health and Family Welfare at the District Offices Complex here.

Ms. Francis said that these land for construction of rehabilitation centres were identified by the Assistant Commissioner. However, the District Health and Welfare Officer should check the land and submit a report to her.

The victims of endosulfan requiring water beds should be provided with them. The officers should visit the homes of the victims getting monthly pensions to help them to get enrolled for Aadhaar, she said.

She said that the time-table of the visit of school and anganwadi medical teams should be given to the anganwadis well in advance. The time-table should be fed into Google Calendar and reminder should be sent to anganwadi supervisors about it. All the anganwadi supervisors were now having tablets. Hence, an online reminder could be sent to them.

The time-table of the team’s visit should be fixed at the beginning of the academic year. All programmes for maintaining the health of the children and ensuring their safety and protection should be implemented effectively, she said.

An officer of the Health Department said that 2,516 children were checked by these medical teams and 784 children were provided aid under the National Child Safety Programme.

The meeting was informed that there were four deaths due to H1N1 in the district since January. Ms. Francis said that two medical mobile units had been sanctioned for Udupi district. They would be operating in Hengavalli, Madamakki and Amasebail villages in Kundapur taluk and in Nadpal, Hebri, Varanga, Shirlal and Eedu in Karkala taluk.

The District Surgeon, doctors from Kasturba Hospital and other doctors, participated in the meeting.
